1. Overview & Single Purpose
AI Translator ("we", "our", or "the extension") provides instant, context-aware multilingual text translation and AI assistance (summarization, explanation) for selected web text and documents.
We are firmly committed to user privacy and practice data minimization: we collect and process only the minimal technical data strictly necessary to deliver translations.
2. Data Collection and Processing
A. User-Selected Text for Translation
When you select text on a webpage and request a translation, that text snippet is transmitted securely via encrypted HTTPS to our Cloudflare Worker backend proxy to query Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini model).
- No Server-Side Storage: Translation processing is entirely ephemeral and performed in-memory. We do not store, record, or retain your submitted text or the returned translations in any database or disk log.
- No Account Required: The service does not require account creation, registration, or passwords.
B. Clipboard Access (clipboardRead)
The extension requests the clipboardRead permission solely to enable convenient auto-paste functionality when the popup window (popup.html) is opened.
- If text up to 300 characters is currently copied in your clipboard, the popup automatically populates the input field and triggers translation.
- Clipboard content is processed strictly on your local device and is never uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly initiate a translation request.
C. Abuse Prevention and Rate Limiting
To prevent abuse of our free trial quota and protect our infrastructure, our Cloudflare Worker maintains a daily rate-limiting counter in a secure Durable Object storage.
- This counter tracks the daily request count associated with your IP address (e.g.
ip:YYYY-MM-DD:<ip>).
- Counters automatically expire after 24 hours. No translation text, website URLs, or personal identities are linked to these counters.
D. Local Device Storage (chrome.storage.local)
Your translation history, bookmarked favorites, notes, and custom preferences (such as target language and custom AI prompts) are saved exclusively on your personal device using the Chrome Extension Storage API.
- This data remains strictly on your local machine and is never transmitted to our servers.
- You can view, search, export, or clear your local history at any time from the extension Settings page.
E. User-Supplied API Keys (BYOK)
If you choose to use your personal API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI Studio), those keys are saved only in your local browser storage. Requests using your personal keys are sent directly from your browser to the respective provider's endpoints and never pass through our backend proxy.

AI Translator strictly complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the Limited Use requirements:
- We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties under any circumstances.
- We do not use or transfer user data for personalized advertising, retargeting, or marketing.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- We request only the minimum necessary permissions required to operate the translation interface on web pages and documents.
5. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
- Service "AS IS": The extension and its translation services are provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- AI Output: Translations and summaries are generated automatically by artificial intelligence models and may occasionally contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or errors. We do not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of any translation.
- Sensitive Information: Users are strongly advised not to submit highly confidential, proprietary, or sensitive personal information (such as passwords, credit card numbers, or medical records) for translation.
6. Data Rights & Inquiries
Because we do not maintain accounts or store user data on remote servers, we do not hold personal data archives. You retain full control over your local data on your device and can delete your history at any moment.
